Recent happenings

I figured it was about time I updated our blog. Ha, I say 'our' blog, but really it is my blog. Mike never checks it, however he always seems to say "You should post that on the blog" whenever he finds a picture of something!

I love checking your blogs (I'm a blog stalker...probably the worst one out there) so I thought if there was a blog stalker checking mine, I should give him/her the satisfaction of an update.

Well, life has been busy.

1. We are fixing up our basement. I think the carpet down there was the original from 1981. It dirty and I couldn't take it any more. We were given some carpet from my parents and we had a friend (thanks Jeff!) put it in for us. We painted the walls and put in new light fixtures. Ah....
I don't like green carpet but it was free and I didn't have to install it myself. I will do other fix ups but not installing carpet.

2. We have been working at building up our food storage and I think we doing pretty good. While putting things back in the basement we took an inventory of just the canned goods, so far. Anyone else like Cream of Mushroom Soup? Cause we do! I actually don't like to eat it as a soup by itself but I do use it for a lot of recipes.

3. My Grandpa passed away on May 28. That was a phone call I did not want. Dad was crying so much that he couldn't talk....sad. He has always been there and I really thought he always would. My dad and mom sounded SO sad when they phoned it was heartbreaking. My Grandma is a rock. She is an amazing woman to go through this and to remind us to smile and remember the good times. Gramps and dad have been business partners for over 30 years. They have worked so close together and been such good friends for so long. They are a great example to me.

Gramps taught me that/to:
  • "a days work for a days pay"
  • make a horse gallap noise with my hands on my knees (I'll have to show you I think!)
  • treat yourself
  • laugh
  • appreciate what you have
  • love your family
Oh how I will miss him. It was nice to be together as a family and to share memories. I love my family and this sad experience has helped us appreciate one another more and has reminded us that we need to get together more.

4. Young Women's is great. I am SO thankful for the women in my presidency that keep me going (and everything else). Thanks for being there when I needed a break and when I needed the support. I always need support but especially during the last few weeks. My YW girls teach me so much and I hope I do the same for them. I love that we can teach each other, no matter what age we are.

5. I love Mike! He is SO good to me it's outstanding. We played catch at the park the other night. It was so much fun and good to laugh together and to get some exercise.

6. Friends. What would we do without friends? I am so glad that I am here at this time in my life and that I have friends that know when to call or stop by or just say hi and ask how I am. Truly ask.

7. I have been quilting. I love it! I have a couple of projects going that I am excited to finish. I am making a table topper, a Christmas quilt, and a quiet book.

I will post pictures of everything soon.

Kar, I teared up a bit reading about your grandpa. I didn't know him, but your emotion in writing about him was so real. Please accept my condolences.

Sounds like my husband and your husband are the same when it comes to blogs. Ryan always says "You should blog about that" and then a few days later he will ask if I wrote a blog about whatever it was he wanted me to write about. Seriously? He's fingers seem to work fine! He could type something!

Sweet! Krystyn, I saw your note about the Lychee pop and Mike just mentioned it yesterday. He likes those types of drinks.

Thanks Michelle. I am always amazed at how well people write so I'm glad I had the same impact.
